FLAME

FLAME, born Marcus Gray in St. Louis, is a Christian hip-hop artist who became one of the genre's most respected voices through dense, theologically grounded lyricism paired with hard-hitting, radio-ready production. Converting to Christianity as a teenager after an earlier immersion in street rap, he shifted his writing toward explicitly Gospel-centered material, drawing early inspiration from the group Cross Movement.

Signed to Reach Records for much of his career, FLAME became a key figure in the label's roster alongside artists like Lecrae, helping push Christian rap toward mainstream chart recognition. His music covers boom-bap and contemporary trap-influenced production while staying lyrically focused on doctrine, personal testimony and cultural commentary, earning him a Grammy nomination and Billboard chart placements.

Over time his theology moved from a more Reformed, Calvinistic outlook toward Lutheran convictions, a shift reflected in later projects such as Extra Nos, which explicitly explore law-and-gospel themes, alongside the Extra Nos Academy teaching initiative. This evolution has made FLAME somewhat distinct within Christian hip-hop, known not just for technical rapping but for treating his music as an extension of doctrinal teaching and pastoral concern.
