Filipe Ret

Filipe Ret is a Brazilian rapper and songwriter from Catete, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro, widely regarded as one of the leading voices of the new generation of Rio's rap scene. A trained journalist, Ret discovered hip-hop as a child through the music of Gabriel, O Pensador and began writing his own lyrics as a teenager, later cutting his teeth in Rio's early MC battle scene in Lapa alongside veteran rappers.

His sound draws freely on funk, rock, and MPB influences layered over hard-hitting rap production, giving his music a distinctly carioca identity. His breakout came with the Tudubom Records-produced debut album, made with collaborators Daniel Shadow and Mão Lee, which produced the massive hit «Neurótico de Guerra» — viewed tens of millions of times online and aired on MTV — along with the single «D.U.T.U.M.O.B».

He followed with the 2015 album Revel, again with Daniel Shadow and Mão Lee, featuring the hit single «Invicto», which also drew tens of millions of views. Ret has since built a substantial catalog including «Isso Que é Vida», «Vivendo Avançado», and «Libertários Não Morrem», cementing his place as a defining figure of contemporary Rio de Janeiro rap.
