Fetty Wap

Fetty Wap, born Willie Junior Maxwell II on June 7, 1991 in Paterson, New Jersey, emerged in the mid-2010s as one of the defining voices of melodic, hook-driven trap-rap. His raspy, Auto-Tune-inflected singing style, which he described as ignorant R&B, set him apart from more traditional rappers and helped popularize a wave of sung-rap hybrids.

His breakout single «Trap Queen», an independently released track built around a warm, romantic hook over trap drums, became a massive crossover hit in 2015 and turned him into a household name almost overnight. Follow-up hits like «679» and «My Way» kept him at the top of the charts, and his self-titled debut album Fetty Wap, released in September 2015, consolidated his run with additional tracks such as «Jugg» and «Again».

Associated with his Remy Boyz collective, Fetty Wap became known for anthemic, catchy singles more than dense lyricism, influencing the melodic trap sound that dominated rap radio in the latter half of the 2010s. Later releases like «RGF Island» and «Jimmy Choo» showed continued output, though none matched the cultural ubiquity of his early run.
