About the artist
Far East Movement is an American group formed in Los Angeles in 2003, consisting of Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif and DJ Virman. Blending hip hop with electronic dance production, the group built an early following through independent releases before breaking into the mainstream, becoming known as pioneers of Asian American representation in mainstream US pop and hip hop.
Their breakthrough came with «Like A G6», which topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and the iTunes chart in 2010, cementing their sound: club-ready beats fused with pop hooks and rapped verses. Follow-up hits like «Rocketeer» and «The Illest» extended their run of electronic hip hop-EDM crossovers, and earlier exposure came through «Round Round», featured on the soundtrack of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
After stepping back for a period, the group returned with the album Identity in 2016, led by the single «Freal Luv» featuring Tinashe, Marshmello and Chanyeol — a collaboration reflecting their continued interest in blending pop, EDM and international artists. Far East Movement remain notable for helping push electronic-infused hip hop into the pop mainstream in the early 2010s.
