Enima

Enima, born Samir Slimani in 1993 in Algeria, is a Montreal-based rapper who immigrated to Quebec around the age of ten and settled in the Saint-Léonard borough. Fluent in French from an early age thanks to his mother, who taught the language, he adapted quickly to his new environment. His stage name originated in childhood, when friends began calling him «Enima» — «Amine» spelled backward — after he avoided revealing his real name, and the nickname stuck as his artistic identity.

Critical of what he views as an insular Canadian and Quebec music industry, Enima built his career entirely independently, founding his own label, MMS Entertainment, to release his music on his own terms. He entered the Montreal rap scene in April 2016 with a remix of Young Thug's «Power», which introduced his mixtape En Attendant MMS Vol. 1, before releasing the MMS Vol. 1 and MMS Vol. 2 projects later that year.

His music reflects a hard-edged, street-rooted style within Quebec's French-language rap scene, with tracks like «For the Low», «Blow», and «Wrist Money» showcasing his aggressive delivery. As an independent artist and label founder, Enima has carved out a distinctive place in Montreal's rap landscape, valued for his self-sufficiency and uncompromising approach to the industry.
