About the artist

Emtee, born Mthembeni Ndevu on September 15, 1992, is a South African hip hop artist and producer who emerged from Roodepoort and became one of the defining voices of the country's hip hop scene in the mid-2010s. His breakout single «Roll Up» introduced a laid-back, melodic trap sound built on Auto-Tuned hooks and street-rooted storytelling that set him apart from more traditional South African rap. Signed initially to Ambitiouz Entertainment, he released his platinum-certified debut album Avery in 2016, cementing his status as a leading figure in the genre.

After a public split from Ambitiouz Entertainment, he founded his own label, Emtee Records, giving him greater creative control over his output. His 2017 sophomore album Manando was widely anticipated and further showcased his ability to blend hip hop with R&B-inflected melodies. Emtee's music often touches on struggle, ambition, and street life, delivered in a distinctive raspy vocal style.

Beyond his solo work, Emtee has remained a fixture of the South African hip hop landscape, influencing younger artists with his melodic approach to rap. His catalog, including tracks like «We Up», «Winning», and «Thank You», reflects a consistent narrative of resilience and self-made success.
