Emicida

Emicida, born Leandro Roque de Oliveira, is a Brazilian rapper, producer and label founder from São Paulo who emerged from the city's freestyle battle scene, where his aggressive lyrical style earned him the stage name — a fusion of MC and homicida. He broke through with the mixtape «Pra Quem Já Mordeu um Cachorro por Comida até que Eu Cheguei Longe...» in 2009, establishing himself as one of the most literate and socially conscious voices in Brazilian hip-hop.

His music blends rap with samba, jazz and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, reflecting a broader vision of Black Brazilian identity and history rather than staying within a single genre lane. Albums like «AmarElo» expanded this into large-scale, multimedia projects touching on race, poverty and Brazilian culture, produced through his own label Laboratório Fantasma.

Emicida has collaborated widely across Brazilian music and become a prominent public voice on race and social issues, moving between underground rap credibility and mainstream cultural recognition. He remains one of the defining figures connecting Brazilian hip-hop to the country's wider musical and political conversation.
