El-P

El-P (born Jaime Meline, March 2, 1975) is an American rapper, producer, and entrepreneur who became a defining figure of underground hip-hop from the mid-1990s onward. He first made his mark as a member of Company Flow, whose dense, abstract lyricism and abrasive, sci-fi-tinged production helped shape the independent rap sound of the era. He went on to found the label Def Jux, which released influential records by artists like Cannibal Ox and Aesop Rock and became a hub for experimental, left-field hip-hop.

As a solo artist, El-P built a reputation for cinematic, industrial-leaning production paired with dense, politically charged and dystopian lyrics, most notably on Fantastic Damage and I'll Sleep When You're Dead. His production work extended beyond his own catalog, including Killer Mike's acclaimed R.A.P. Music, which marked the beginning of a close creative partnership between the two.

That partnership evolved into Run the Jewels, formed with Killer Mike in 2013, which brought El-P's aggressive, futuristic beats and confrontational style to a much wider audience across a series of critically acclaimed albums. Across three decades, El-P has remained a consistent presence pushing hip-hop production toward darker, more experimental territory.
