Eddie Rabbitt

Eddie Rabbitt was an American singer-songwriter who became one of the defining voices of country-pop crossover in the late 1970s and 1980s. Born in Brooklyn to Irish immigrant parents and raised in East Orange, New Jersey, he began as a songwriter in Nashville before Elvis Presley recorded his composition «Kentucky Rain», which helped launch his own recording career.

Rabbitt's sound blended traditional country instrumentation with pop hooks and rock energy, making him a regular presence on both country and pop charts. Hits like «Drivin' My Life Away», «I Love a Rainy Night» and «Suspicions» showcased his knack for catchy, radio-friendly melodies paired with warm, conversational vocals. He also had success writing for film, including «Every Which Way But Loose» for the Clint Eastwood movie of the same name.

His songwriting was recognized with BMI awards for «Suspicions» and other hits, and he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1998, the year he died of lung cancer. Rabbitt remains remembered as one of the artists who helped country music reach a broader mainstream audience.
