Doug E. Fresh & The Get Fresh Crew

Doug E. Fresh, born Douglas E. Davis in Barbados and raised in New York City, is a foundational figure in hip hop, widely celebrated as one of the pioneers of human beatboxing. He made his first appearances on record in the early 1980s, including «Pass the Boo-Dah» in 1983 and his solo debut «Just Having Fun» in 1984, before assembling the Get Fresh Crew, which featured MC Ricky D — later famous as Slick Rick — alongside Barry Bee and Chill Will.

In 1985, Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew released the double-sided single «The Show» / «La Di Da Di» on Reality Records, a record that became one of the most influential and widely sampled tracks in hip hop history, showcasing both Fresh's rhythmic beatboxing and Slick Rick's smooth, storytelling delivery. The single's success carried into his debut album, «Oh, My God!» (1986), which featured further showcases of his vocal-percussion technique.

His 1988 follow-up, «The World's Greatest Entertainer», produced the hit «Keep Risin' to the Top», extending his chart presence. Fresh later reunited with Slick Rick and continued recording into the 1990s, remaining a touchstone reference for beatboxing and old-school hip hop artistry.
