About the artist
Dopebwoy is a Dutch rapper from Amsterdam Zuidoost, raised largely in Almere, who emerged in the early 2010s as one of the defining voices of Dutch-language street rap alongside acts like Boef and the broader Amsterdamse School scene. Growing up around his father, a DJ, he absorbed hip-hop and dance music early and started making beats before turning to rapping himself, first in English under another name before switching to Dutch, which proved the breakthrough move.
His sound blends trap-influenced production with catchy, hook-driven songwriting, often pulling in Afrobeat, dancehall and pop textures rather than staying strictly within boom-bap or drill conventions. This crossover instinct made him a natural collaborator with pop and dance producers as well as fellow rappers, and tracks like «Cartier» and «TikTok» became festival and radio staples that helped push Dutch urban music toward the mainstream charts.
Over the 2010s and into the 2020s he built a catalogue mixing party anthems, such as «Vakantie» and «Marbella», with harder street cuts like «Walou Crisis» and «Blem», maintaining a steady presence in the Dutch charts. He remains one of the more commercially visible figures to come out of the Amsterdam rap scene of that period, known for turning regional slang and local references into widely shared hits.
