Djonga

Djonga, born Gustavo Pereira Marques in 1994, is a Brazilian rapper from Belo Horizonte and one of the leading voices of the new generation of Minas Gerais hip-hop. His style fuses influences from funk carioca and pioneering groups like Racionais MC's, marked by a deep, aggressive delivery and dense, socially charged wordplay. He started out performing at poetry slams (saraus) before releasing his debut EP «Fechando o Corpo» in 2015, which caught the attention of the DV Tribo collective and helped launch his national profile.

Djonga built his reputation through a series of well-received singles and collaborations before releasing his debut album «Heresia» in 2017, a project recorded in a short and intense period that divided critics but resonated strongly with listeners. He followed it with «O Menino que Queria Ser Deus» in 2018, largely produced by his longtime collaborator Coyote, which cemented his place as one of the most respected MCs in Brazilian rap.

Known for tracks like «UFA», «Geminiano», and «Olho de Tigre», Djonga stands out for combining technical rhyme skill with unflinching social commentary, addressing race, poverty, and inequality in Brazil. His work has made him a defining figure of the Belo Horizonte rap scene and an influential voice in contemporary Brazilian hip-hop.
