About the artist
DJ Khalil, born Khalil Abdul-Rahman, is an American hip hop and soul record producer from Los Angeles. He first made his name as the instrumental half of the duo Self Scientific, alongside rapper Chace Infinite, releasing underground records that built his reputation as a beatmaker with a musical, soul-influenced sound rather than a purely sample-flip approach.
Khalil later became a key member of the Aftermath Entertainment production camp under Dr. Dre, contributing to some of the label's biggest projects. He is widely known for producing several tracks on Eminem’s 2010 comeback album Recovery, work that brought him into the mainstream and cemented his standing as one of the go-to producers for major label rap releases in that era.
Beyond his Aftermath work, Khalil has built a broad catalog of production and songwriting credits across hip hop and R&B, collaborating with a wide range of artists over the years. His sound blends boom-bap drum programming with live instrumentation and melodic, soulful elements, giving his beats a warmer, more organic feel than many of his contemporaries.
