Diam's

Diam's, born Mélanie Georgiades on 25 July 1980 in Nicosia, Cyprus, to a French mother and Greek Cypriot father, is one of the most significant figures in French rap. She moved to Paris with her mother at age three and lived there until thirteen, later choosing the stage name Diam's in 1995 as a nod to «diamond». She signed a development deal with BMG Music Publishing France as a teenager before moving to Universal Records, releasing her debut album «Premier mandat» in 1999.

Her commercial and cultural breakthrough came with 2006's «Dans ma bulle», which debuted at number one on the French albums chart and sold tens of thousands of copies in its first week alone. Its lead single, «La Boulette (Génération nan nan)», became a defining hit of French rap in the mid-2000s, topping the singles chart for six consecutive weeks and introducing her sharp, socially conscious lyricism to a mainstream audience. Songs like «Confessions nocturnes», «Jeune demoiselle», «Enfants du désert», and «Ma France à moi» further cemented her reputation for combining personal introspection with pointed social commentary, a combination that distinguished her from much of the male-dominated French rap scene of the era.

In 2013, Diam's announced she was stepping away from the music industry, closing a chapter on one of the most influential careers in French hip-hop, whose impact on the genre's lyrical and commercial landscape remains widely acknowledged.
