Deltron 3030

Deltron 3030 is a hip-hop supergroup formed by rapper Del the Funky Homosapien alongside producers Dan the Automator and turntablist Kid Koala. The trio came together around the turn of the millennium, building on Del's reputation as a member of the Hieroglyphics collective and Dan the Automator's track record crafting conceptual, cinematic hip-hop production, most notably with Dr. Octagon.

Their self-titled debut, released in 2000, is a landmark of science-fiction concept albums in rap: a sprawling space opera following the exiled mech soldier Deltron Zero as he battles corporate tyranny in a dystopian future. Songs like «3030» and «Mastermind» pair Del's dense, wordplay-heavy verses with Dan the Automator's lush, orchestral-tinged beats and Kid Koala's inventive scratching, creating a sound that felt closer to a film score than a typical rap record.

Deltron 3030 became a cult favorite and an influential touchstone for underground and conscious hip-hop, admired for its ambition and world-building. After years of anticipation, the group returned with the sequel album Event 2 in 2013, continuing the saga with an even larger cast of guest collaborators while staying true to the original's dense, futuristic aesthetic.
