dead prez are a radical hip-hop duo formed in the mid-1990s by stic.man and M-1, who met at Florida A&M University and bonded over a shared revolutionary, pro-black political outlook. Positioning themselves between the raw aggression of N.W.A and the militant consciousness of Public Enemy, the group built its identity on uncompromising political messaging fused with hard-hitting, soulful production.

Their debut album Let's Get Free, released on Loud Records in 2000, remains their defining statement, anchored by the single «Hip-Hop» (also known as «It's Bigger Than Hip-Hop»), a track that became an anthem for socially conscious rap. The record's mix of Black nationalist politics, anti-police and anti-establishment themes, and calls for self-determination and healthy living set dead prez apart from mainstream rap of the era.

The duo followed with Revolutionary But Gangsta in 2004 and Information Age in 2012, alongside numerous mixtapes and bootleg releases, gradually broadening their scope from overt political radicalism toward themes of personal growth, meditation, and community upliftment. Their uncompromising stance and influence on politically conscious hip-hop have made them touchstones for socially engaged rap artists that followed.
