Das EFX

Das EFX is an American hip hop duo from Brooklyn, New York, formed by Skoob (William Hines) and Dray (Andre Weston), who first met while attending Virginia State University. They broke through in 1992 under the wing of EPMD's Hit Squad, and their debut album Dead Serious, led by the single «They Want EFX», became an instant classic and one of the defining releases of early-1990s East Coast hip hop.

The duo is best known for a stream-of-consciousness rhyme style built on rapid-fire, tongue-twisting wordplay, nonsensical asides, and a signature habit of tacking «-iggedy» onto syllables — a technique that spread widely through hip hop and influenced a generation of MCs. Their sound paired this vocal delivery with gritty, sample-heavy East Coast production, heard across albums like Straight Up Sewaside and Hold It Down.

Though never as commercially dominant after their debut, Das EFX remained a respected act throughout the 1990s, continuing to release albums into the 2000s and reuniting periodically for tours and new material. Their early-90s run, especially «They Want EFX» and «Mic Checka», is still cited as a touchstone for hip hop's golden-era lyrical experimentation.
