Dark Polo Gang

Dark Polo Gang is a Roman trap collective formed in 2014, built around a core lineup that included Pyrex, Tony Effe and Wayne Santana, with member Side (formerly DarkSide) part of the group until his 2018 departure. Emerging from Rome's underground scene, the group became one of the pioneering acts of Italian trap, bringing American-influenced trap aesthetics, ad-libs and street imagery into Italian-language music at a time when the genre had little foothold nationally.

Much of the group's early and defining sound was shaped by producer Sick Luke, whose beats gave the collective its recognizable dark, bass-heavy trap identity. Songs like «Cavallini», «Sportswear», «Fiori Del Male» and «Caramelle» helped define their catalogue, mixing flashy, hedonistic lyrical themes with a distinctly Roman sensibility, including their name's play on contrasting streetwise Dark and privileged Polo imagery, and a triple-seven logo symbolizing luck and wealth.

After building buzz independently through their own label and management outfit, the group signed to a major label in 2018 and released Trap Lovers as their first effort without Side. They continued releasing projects including Dark Boys Club, cementing their role in bringing trap into the Italian pop mainstream and influencing a generation of Italian rappers.
