About the artist
Daniel Lanois is a Canadian record producer, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, one of the most influential production figures in rock and roots music since the 1980s. Working extensively alongside Brian Eno, he helped shape the ambient-tinged, atmospheric production style that defined a series of landmark albums, most famously producing several platinum-selling records for U2, including The Joshua Tree.
Beyond U2, Lanois has produced or co-produced work for an extraordinary range of artists, including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson and Brandon Flowers, bringing to each project his trademark blend of spacious sonic textures, warm analog tones and a strong sense of place and mood. Three albums he produced or co-produced have won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, with several more nominated, reflecting his standing as one of the most respected producers of his generation.
As a solo artist, Lanois has released his own albums spanning rock, ambient, electronic and country-tinged material, including tracks such as «The Maker» and «Red», which showcase the same evocative, textured sound he brings to his production work. His career reflects a rare dual identity as both a behind-the-scenes architect of other artists' signature records and a distinctive artist in his own right.
