DANGERDOOM

DANGERDOOM was a collaborative project between producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) and rapper-producer MF DOOM, formed in the mid-2000s. Their sole full-length album, «The Mouse and the Mask» (2005), was built around samples and skits from Adult Swim's late-night programming block, most notably «Aqua Teen Hunger Force», reflecting DOOM's longstanding love of cartoons and pop-culture ephemera.

The album paired Danger Mouse's cinematic, sample-heavy production with DOOM's dense, off-kilter wordplay and villain-themed persona, resulting in tracks like «Sofa King», «Old School Rules», and «Crosshairs» that balanced comedic, absurdist humor with genuinely intricate rhyme schemes. Guest appearances from artists including Cee-Lo Green, Talib Kweli, and Ghostface Killah broadened the record's scope beyond a simple novelty project, and it became a cult favorite within underground hip-hop.

DANGERDOOM followed up with the EP «Occult Hymn» in 2006, featuring instrumental and alternate versions of album tracks. The project stands as a notable entry in both artists' catalogs: for Danger Mouse, it came shortly after his breakout «The Grey Album», and for DOOM, it added to a prolific run of collaborative records in the mid-2000s that included work with Madlib as Madvillain. The duo never released further original material together, but «The Mouse and the Mask» remains a touchstone of playful, sample-driven underground hip-hop.
