Danger Dan

Danger Dan is the stage name of German rapper, producer, and musician Daniel Pongratz, best known as a founding member of the Aachen-based hip-hop collective Antilopen Gang, alongside Panik Panzer and Koljah. Within the group he is known for combining sharp, often satirical lyricism with a strong sense of melody, frequently taking on the more song-oriented, hook-driven parts of the group's material.

Antilopen Gang built a reputation as one of German hip-hop's most politically outspoken acts, mixing biting satire, absurdist humor, and left-wing social commentary, and Danger Dan's solo work extends that sensibility into more piano-driven, singer-songwriter territory. His solo material moved away from straightforward rap toward introspective, piano-based songs, most notably drawing wide public attention with a track directly confronting Germany's far-right political party, which sparked national debate over artistic freedom and defamation law.

Beyond Antilopen Gang, he has been part of earlier collectives and side projects within the Aachen hip-hop scene, reflecting a career built through collaborative, DIY-rooted groups before wider recognition. His work is marked by a willingness to court controversy directly, using pointed, unambiguous language rather than coded satire, which has made him a distinctive and often polarizing voice in contemporary German music.
