Dan + Shay

Dan + Shay are an American country music duo formed by Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, who met at a party at Mooney's home in December 2012 and began writing songs together soon after. Smyers, a multi-instrumentalist and producer, grew up in Pennsylvania and studied finance before pursuing music full-time, while Mooney brought a soulful, R&B-inflected vocal style that became the duo's signature. Together they built a sound that blends traditional country songwriting with pop production and vocal harmonies rarely heard in the genre.

The duo broke through with singles like «Nothin' Like You» and «19 You + Me», then reached a new commercial peak with «Tequila», «Speechless» and «10,000 Hours», the last a collaboration with Justin Bieber that became one of the biggest country crossover hits of its era. Their music is known for lush, layered harmonies, emotionally direct lyrics about love and relationships, and production that leans closer to contemporary pop than classic Nashville twang.

Dan + Shay have won multiple CMA and ACM awards, including Vocal Duo of the Year, and are widely credited with helping push country music toward a more pop-friendly, radio-dominant sound in the late 2010s. They remain based in Nashville, Tennessee, and continue to write and produce much of their own material.
