Damian Marley

Damian Marley, nicknamed Jr. Gong after his father Bob Marley, known as Tuff Gong, is a Jamaican reggae artist who began performing at the age of 13. As the youngest son of the reggae icon, he grew up immersed in the genre while developing a sound of his own that fuses roots reggae with dancehall and hip-hop elements.

His second album, Halfway Tree, won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2002, establishing his reputation as a serious artist in his own right. He continued building on that success with releases that pushed reggae toward broader crossover audiences, incorporating rap cadences and contemporary production while keeping roots reggae's socially conscious lyricism at the core.

Damian Marley is widely known for the anthem «Welcome to Jamrock», a defining reggae crossover hit of the 2000s that introduced his gruff, rhythmic delivery to a global audience. He has also collaborated extensively with hip-hop and R&B artists, most notably with Nas on the acclaimed joint album Distant Relatives, cementing his role as a bridge between reggae and American urban music.
