D4L

D4L was an Atlanta hip-hop group formed in 2003, comprised of rappers Fabo, Mook-B, Stoney (also known as Stuntman) and Shawty Lo. Their name stood for «Down for Life», and they became one of the defining acts of the mid-2000s snap music movement, a stripped-down, hi-hat-driven offshoot of Southern hip-hop built for the club and the dance floor.

The group's breakout single «Betcha Can't Do It Like Me» introduced their sound in 2005, but it was «Laffy Taffy» that turned them into a national phenomenon. Built around a minimal beat and a chant-like hook, the song became a viral dance-floor anthem and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2006, helping push snap music into the mainstream alongside acts like Dem Franchize Boyz. Their debut album, released via Asylum Records in late 2005, rode that wave to platinum-level success.

After «Laffy Taffy», the group's momentum cooled and Shawty Lo went on to build a notable solo career in Atlanta rap. D4L briefly resurfaced in 2011 with a joint-venture deal tied to 50 Cent's G-Unit label, though no further group project followed. Despite a short run at the top, D4L's influence on snap music's rise remains a fixture of Atlanta hip-hop history.
