D Smoke, born Daniel Farris on October 17, 1985 in Inglewood, California, is a rapper and singer who came to wide public attention after winning the first season of the Netflix competition series Rhythm + Flow. Before his solo breakthrough, he was already an established figure behind the scenes, having co-founded the songwriting and production collective WoodWorks with his cousin Tiffany Gouché, contributing to work for artists including Ginuwine, The Pussycat Dolls, Jaheim and Mary J. Blige.

His music blends rap and R&B with a strong emphasis on lyricism, often incorporating bilingual verses in English and Spanish, reflecting his background as a former Spanish teacher.
