CZARFACE

CZARFACE is an American hip-hop trio formed in 2013, uniting underground duo 7L & Esoteric with Wu-Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck. The group is built around a shared comic-book-inspired persona, presenting its three members as a rap-based superhero character brought to life through vivid, pulpy artwork and lyrics steeped in comic and pop-culture references.

Musically, CZARFACE leans on dense, boom-bap-rooted production from 7L paired with intricate, reference-laden verses from Esoteric and Inspectah Deck, continuing an underground hip-hop tradition of technical wordplay and layered storytelling. Their debut album CZARFACE (2013) was followed by well-received releases including Every Hero Needs a Villain and A Fistful of Peril, establishing the group as a critical favorite within the boom-bap and Wu-Tang-adjacent underground scene.

CZARFACE is especially known for its collaborations with the late MF DOOM, forming the joint project CZARFACE & MF DOOM and releasing CZARFACE Meets Metal Face, a pairing of two comic-book-themed hip-hop personas. The group also teamed with Wu-Tang's Ghostface Killah for a further collaborative album, reinforcing CZARFACE's role as a connective thread within the Wu-Tang extended universe and the broader underground hip-hop community.
