Cypress Hill

Cypress Hill is a pioneering American hip hop group from South Gate, California, formed in the late 1980s. The lineup features rapper B-Real, DJ and producer Muggs, and rapper Sen Dog, later joined by percussionist Eric Bobo. Named after a local street, the group emerged from the West Coast rap scene and quickly distinguished itself with a sound and image inseparable from cannabis culture, becoming one of the most vocal advocates for marijuana legalization in mainstream hip hop.

Muggs' production defined the group's early sound: dusty, sample-heavy beats layered with eerie horror-movie textures, over which B-Real's distinctive nasal delivery and Sen Dog's gruffer vocals traded verses. Breakthrough singles like «How I Could Just Kill a Man», «Hits from the Bong», and «Insane in the Brain» made Cypress Hill one of the first Latino-led hip hop acts to achieve major mainstream crossover success, also drawing rock and metal audiences.

Over a career spanning multiple decades and studio albums, Cypress Hill has continued to blend hip hop with rock, Latin, and psychedelic influences, collaborating with acts across genres and headlining festivals worldwide. Their fusion of street narratives, stoner anthems, and genre-crossing experimentation cemented their lasting influence on both hip hop and rock-rap hybrids.
