Creepy Nuts

Creepy Nuts are a Japanese hip-hop duo formed in Osaka in 2013, consisting of rapper R-Shitei and DJ/producer DJ Matsunaga. The pair met as teenagers at a hip-hop event where they bonded over feeling like outsiders, and their partnership grew from mutual respect between Matsunaga's turntablism and R-Shitei's freestyle rap ability. Over the following decade they built a reputation in Japan's underground hip-hop scene through freestyle battles and DJ championships before crossing into the mainstream.

Their sound blends sharp, rapid-fire Japanese rapping with playful, hook-driven production that borrows from pop, funk, and turntablist scratching, giving their tracks an accessible energy that stands out within Japanese hip-hop. Their debut studio album, «Creep Show», appeared in 2018, and they steadily built a following through singles and anime tie-ins, including theme songs for the series «Call of the Night» and «Dandadan».

The duo reached a new level of international recognition with «Bling-Bang-Bang-Born», the 2024 opening theme for the second season of «Mashle», which became a global viral hit and topped the Billboard Japan Hot 100 for eight consecutive weeks. Songs like «オトノケ (Otonoke)» and «堕天 (Daten)» further cemented their place as one of the most distinctive acts to bring Japanese hip-hop to a worldwide audience.
