About the artist
Conway Twitty, born Harold Lloyd Jenkins in Friars Point, Mississippi, was one of the defining voices of country music in the 1970s and 1980s, after starting his career as a rockabilly and pop singer in the 1950s. His early hit «It's Only Make Believe» established him as a teen idol before he shifted decisively to country music in the mid-1960s.
Once he moved to Nashville's sound, Twitty built one of the most successful careers in country history, known for his smooth, low baritone and unabashedly romantic, often suggestive material — songs like «Hello Darlin'», «Tight Fittin' Jeans», «Slow Hand» and «Don't Cry Joni» became signatures of his style. He racked up an extraordinary run of number-one country singles across three decades, a record that still stands among the genre's highest.
Twitty is equally remembered for his celebrated duet partnership with Loretta Lynn, which produced a string of award-winning hits and cemented their status as one of country music's greatest vocal pairings. He continued recording and touring until his death in 1993, leaving behind a catalog defined by warmth, storytelling, and one of the most recognizable voices in country music.
