Clipse

Clipse is an American hip-hop duo from Virginia Beach, Virginia, made up of brothers Gene «Malice» (later known as No Malice) and Terrence «Pusha T» Thornton. Discovered in their teens and paired with future superstar producers The Neptunes, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, Clipse became one of the defining acts of so-called coke rap, a subgenre built on vivid, unflinching narratives of the drug trade delivered with technical precision and cold charisma.

After an aborted late-90s debut, the duo broke through in 2002 with «Grindin'», a stripped-down, minimalist Neptunes production that became a Top 40 hit and is now regarded as one of the most influential rap records of its era. Their acclaimed album Lord Willin' followed, cementing their reputation for razor-sharp wordplay layered over sparse, futuristic beats. Their subsequent work, including the Hell Hath No Fury era, deepened their standing as critical favorites even as their commercial path was complicated by industry disputes.

After a long hiatus during which Pusha T pursued a celebrated solo career and Malice turned toward gospel-influenced music as No Malice, the brothers reunited as Clipse, delivering new material that continued their tradition of dense, literary drug-rap storytelling. Their influence can be heard across a generation of rappers who adopted their spare production aesthetic and unsentimental lyrical realism.
