Clint Black

Clint Black is an American country singer-songwriter who emerged as one of the leading figures of the late-1980s neotraditionalist country movement. Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, and raised in Houston, Texas, he broke through in 1989 with the album Killin’ Time, whose singles all reached the top of the country charts and established him alongside Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson as a face of the genre’s commercial resurgence.

Black’s sound blends honky-tonk instrumentation with polished, radio-friendly songwriting, and he distinguished himself early on by co-writing nearly all of his own material, often with longtime collaborator Hayden Nicholas. Hits such as «A Better Man», «Nothin’ But The Taillights», «Like The Rain» and «A Bad Goodbye» showcased both his rich baritone and his knack for narrative, romantic lyricism.

Instantly recognizable by his black cowboy hat, Black has remained a steady presence in country music for decades, later branching into acting and Broadway. He is married to actress Lisa Hartman Black, and his daughter Chelsea Bain has also pursued a career in country music.
