CJ Fly

CJ Fly, born Chaine Downer Jr. on July 6, 1993, is a rapper from Brooklyn, New York, and a founding member of the Pro Era collective. He met fellow future collaborators Joey Bada$$, Capital STEEZ and DJ Powers at Edward R. Murrow High School, where the group spent their days cyphering and honing their craft before formally coming together as Pro Era in 2011.

As a soloist, CJ Fly carved out his own lane within the group's boom-bap-rooted, jazz-influenced sound, releasing his debut mixtape «Thee Way Eye See It» in 2013, followed by «Flytrap» in 2016. His style favors dense, technical wordplay and a laid-back, melodic flow that sets him apart from the more aggressive delivery of some of his Pro Era peers, giving his music a distinct, introspective character within the collective's shared aesthetic.

Beyond his solo work, CJ Fly has been a consistent presence on Pro Era's collaborative projects, including «The Secc$ Tape» volumes and «P.E.E.P: The Aprocalypse», cementing his role as one of the group's core creative voices even as he pursued an independent catalog. His work reflects the boom-bap revivalism that Pro Era helped popularize in the 2010s, rooted in New York hip-hop tradition while carrying a modern, introspective edge.
