About the artist
Child Rebel Soldier was an informal hip-hop supergroup formed by three of the biggest names in the genre in the mid-to-late 2000s: Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, and Pharrell Williams. The trio never intended to become a full-time act, describing their union as something that came together almost accidentally out of mutual admiration and studio chemistry rather than a planned business venture.
Between 2007 and 2010 the group released only a handful of tracks, including songs like «Don't Stop!» and «Us Placers», which showcased each member's distinct style layered over shared production, blending Lupe's dense lyricism, Kanye's melodic sensibility, and Pharrell's West Coast-leaning production touch. They also performed together during Kanye West's «Glow in the Dark Tour» in 2008, giving fans a rare glimpse of the three sharing a stage.
For years there were rumors and confirmations of a full-length album, reportedly titled «God Unwilling», with both Lupe and Kanye publicly discussing the project as being complete and ready for release around 2012. That album never materialized, and the group quietly dissolved without an official explanation, leaving Child Rebel Soldier as one of hip-hop's most tantalizing unreleased-album stories.
