Cartel MCs

Cartel MCs are a Brazilian rap group from Rio de Janeiro, formed in 2008. The group grew out of the city's underground battle and freestyle scene, bringing together MCs who traded rapid, punchy wordplay over boom-bap-rooted production. Over the years the lineup has shifted considerably, with founding members moving on and new voices joining, which has given the group's catalog a range of styles even as its core identity — sharp, humorous, street-level storytelling in Portuguese — has stayed consistent.

The current lineup centers on MCs Ber, Ghetto ZN and Funkero alongside DJ Erik Skratch, who has been part of the project since its early days. Past members have included Daniel Shadow, Delarima, Darryu, Pelé MilFlows and Xamã (who went on to a prominent solo career), along with producer Daniel Sydens, underlining how Cartel MCs has functioned as something of a launching pad within Rio's rap scene.

Musically, the group favors playful, often irreverent lyrics, dense internal rhyme schemes and beats that nod to classic hip-hop while absorbing local slang and humor. Tracks like «X-Men» and the «Srta. Sexo & Afins» series showcase their tag-team verse trading and comic sensibility, making them a recognizable name among fans of Brazilian underground rap.
