About the artist
Caparezza is the stage name of Michele Salvemini, an Italian rapper, singer-songwriter, and producer born in Molfetta, in the Puglia region, in 1973. He began his musical career in the mid-1990s under the moniker Mikimix, releasing two albums and even competing in the Nuove Proposte section of the Sanremo Festival in 1997, before adopting the Caparezza name — a childhood nickname referring to his curly hair — in 1998.
His breakthrough came with the 2003 album Verità Supposte, which included the single «Fuori dal Tunnel» and brought him to a wider Italian audience. He went on to release a string of acclaimed albums, including Habemus Capa and Le Dimensioni del Mio Caos, the latter featuring one of his best-known songs, «Vieni a Ballare in Puglia». His sound blends rap with rock, pop, and electronic elements, often built around concept albums and lyrics rich in wordplay, social commentary, and satire.
Caparezza's work frequently explores identity, religion, and Italian society with a mix of humor and sharp critique, setting him apart within Italian hip-hop as a genre-crossing artist unafraid of ambitious, thematically unified projects. His 2014 album Museica, mixed by Chris Lord-Alge, exemplifies this conceptual approach. He has also dabbled in acting, appearing as himself in the film Che Bella Giornata, and remains one of the most distinctive and critically respected voices in contemporary Italian music.
