Cadet

Cadet was a British rapper from Kingston upon Thames, part of the UK hip-hop and grime scene that flourished in South London in the 2010s. He first drew attention through a freestyle video shared by his cousin, the rapper Krept, which helped introduce him to a wider grime audience. Cadet later shifted his musical direction away from grime toward a more personal style of UK hip-hop, built around confessional, storytelling lyrics rather than battle-rap posturing.

This shift crystallized with his project «You Need to Hear This», which showcased his focus on relatable, everyday struggles — money, family, ambition, and personal growth — delivered with warmth and directness. Tracks like «Advice» and «Letter to Krept» reflected his willingness to be emotionally open, a quality that distinguished him within a scene often defined by bravado.

Cadet died in a car accident in Staffordshire on 9 February 2019, at the age of 28, while travelling to a university show. His death was widely mourned across the UK music scene, and he is remembered as an artist whose honest, heartfelt approach helped push British rap toward more personal songwriting.
