Bun B

Bun B, born Bernard Freeman, is a rapper from Port Arthur, Texas, best known as one half of the pioneering Southern hip-hop duo UGK, which he formed with the late Pimp C. Emerging in the early 1990s, UGK helped build the foundation of Houston and Texas rap, pairing gritty, soulful production with vivid street storytelling and a distinctly Southern drawl that influenced a generation of artists.

After Pimp C's death in 2007, Bun B carried UGK's legacy forward while also building a substantial solo career, releasing albums under the «Trill» banner and becoming one of the most respected elder statesmen in hip-hop. His guest verses have appeared on major hits, most notably Jay-Z's «Big Pimpin'» and Drake's «Uptown», and his deep, authoritative voice made him a fixture on Southern rap posse cuts throughout the 2000s.

Beyond music, Bun B has been active as a cultural figure and educator, including guest-lecturing on hip-hop at Rice University, and has remained a vocal advocate for Houston hip-hop culture and its history.
