Buck Owens

Buck Owens (born Alvis Edgar Owens, Jr., 1929, in Sherman, Texas) was one of the most influential figures in American country music and the architect of the raw, guitar-driven Bakersfield Sound. Raised in California, he built a style built on twangy Fender Telecasters, tight vocal harmonies with his Buckaroos, and a straightforward, honky-tonk-rooted delivery that stood in sharp contrast to the polished, string-laden Nashville productions of the 1960s.

With his backing band the Buckaroos, Owens scored a long run of number-one country hits including «Act Naturally», «Together Again», «I've Got a Tiger By the Tail», «Love's Gonna Live Here» and «My Heart Skips a Beat». «Act Naturally» became especially famous after The Beatles covered it with Ringo Starr on lead vocals, cementing Owens' reach beyond the country audience. His clean, percussive guitar work and unpretentious songwriting made him a direct influence on artists from Merle Haggard to Dwight Yoakam.

Beyond recording, Owens became a household name as co-host of the television variety show Hee Haw, which introduced his music and persona to millions of viewers outside traditional country radio. His combination of commercial success, stylistic innovation and broad crossover visibility secured his place as a foundational figure of modern country music.
