Brantley Gilbert

Brantley Keith Gilbert, born January 20, 1985 in Jefferson, Georgia, is an American country singer-songwriter whose sound blends outlaw-country grit with Southern rock and rap-influenced cadences, placing him among the artists who pushed country music toward a harder-edged, arena-rock-adjacent style in the 2010s. A near-fatal drunk-driving accident at age 19 erased much of his memory, and songwriting became a way to reconstruct pieces of his past — a personal thread that runs through much of his catalogue even as his singles lean into party anthems and defiant, working-class themes.

Gilbert started on Colt Ford's independent label Average Joe's Entertainment, releasing Modern Day Prodigal Son and Halfway to Heaven, before moving to Big Machine Label Group, where he built his mainstream career with the deluxe edition of Halfway to Heaven, Just As I Am (2014), The Devil Don't Sleep (2017), and Fire & Brimstone (2019). Songs like «Bottoms Up» and «The Weekend» became defining hits of his rowdier, hook-driven side, while tracks like «Read Me My Rights» and «One Hell of an Amen» reflect the more autobiographical, gospel-tinged strain in his writing.

He gave up alcohol in December 2011, a turning point that shaped both his public image and his songwriting afterward.
