B.o.B

B.o.B, born Bobby Ray Simmons Jr. in 1988 in Decatur, Georgia, is an American rapper, singer, and producer whose genre-blurring style helped define the pop-rap crossover era of the late 2000s and early 2010s. Mentored and signed by fellow Atlanta artist T.I. through Grand Hustle Records, he spent several years releasing mixtapes before his 2010 debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, turned him into a mainstream star. The album's singles "Nothin' on You" (with Bruno Mars) and "Airplanes" (with Hayley Williams of Paramore) both became massive hits, earning multiple Grammy nominations and topping charts worldwide.

What set B.o.B apart from many contemporaries was his willingness to blend rap verses with pop hooks, rock guitars, and even electronic textures, making his music accessible far beyond traditional hip-hop audiences. He followed his debut with prolific mixtape output, including No Genre and E.P.I.C., and a second album, Strange Clouds, which featured a notable collaboration with Taylor Swift.

In later years B.o.B became known almost as much for controversial public statements as for his music, which complicated his legacy, but his early-2010s run remains one of the clearest examples of hip-hop merging seamlessly with pop radio.
