Blueface

Blueface, born Johnathan Michael Porter in Los Angeles, California, is a rapper who broke into the mainstream through viral internet fame built on a deliberately off-beat, unconventional flow. His stage name references both his ties to a Los Angeles street gang and the Benjamin Franklin tattoo on his cheek, a nod to the hundred-dollar bill.

After releasing early singles through 2017 and 2018 and dropping mixtapes like Famous Cryp and Two Coccy, Blueface's breakthrough came with the music video for «Respect My Cryppin'», which went viral on WorldStarHipHop for its bizarre, playfully atonal delivery. That momentum carried into «Thotiana», his biggest hit, which spawned a widely heard remix featuring Cardi B and helped define his brash, catchy, meme-friendly style within late-2010s West Coast rap.

Signed to Cash Money West, Blueface built a career on leaning into internet culture and controversy as much as musical craft, releasing the EP Dirt Bag in 2019 and his debut album Find the Beat in 2020. His unmistakable delivery, alternately mocked and celebrated, made him one of the more polarizing and widely discussed figures to emerge from the SoundCloud-and-viral-video era of hip-hop.
