About the artist
Black Sherif, born Mohammed Ismail Sherif, is a Ghanaian singer and rapper who emerged from the streets of Konongo before rising to national and continental fame. His sound blends Ghanaian drill, highlife melodies, and Afro-fusion with raw, emotionally direct songwriting, often delivered in a mix of Twi and English. This combination gave him a distinctive voice within Ghana's asakaa and broader Afrobeats-adjacent scene, setting him apart from purely English-language pop acts.
He broke through in 2020 with «Money», followed by «First Sermon» and «Second Sermon», the latter featuring a notable Sarkodie verse and remix appearances that widened his reach beyond Ghana. His 2022 single «Kwaku the Traveller» became a defining hit, propelling his debut album The Villain I Never Was into wide acclaim across West Africa and the diaspora.
Black Sherif is known for lyrics that draw on personal struggle, street life, and resilience, giving his music a confessional, almost diaristic quality. He has become one of the most prominent young voices in contemporary Ghanaian music, bridging local sonic traditions with global rap and R&B sensibilities.
