Black Moon

Black Moon is an American hip hop group from Brooklyn, New York, formed in the early 1990s and composed of rapper Buckshot, rapper 5ft, and producer DJ Evil Dee. The group became one of the founding units of the Boot Camp Clik, the loose collective of East Coast rap acts that also included Smif-N-Wessun and Heltah Skeltah, and their sound helped define a whole strand of gritty, boom-bap New York hip hop in the 1990s.

Their 1993 debut album, «Enta da Stage», is widely regarded as a genre landmark, pairing Buckshot's laid-back, street-level lyricism with Evil Dee's dusty, sample-driven production, itself a key entry in the Beatminerz production style that shaped much of the Boot Camp Clik's output. Singles like «Who Got da Props?» and «How Many MC's...» captured the raw, understated energy that distinguished Black Moon from the more polished, radio-friendly rap of the era.

Though the group released fewer albums than many of their contemporaries, their influence on underground and boom-bap hip hop has proven lasting, with «Enta da Stage» frequently cited by critics and fellow artists as a touchstone of authentic, unglossed 1990s New York rap. Buckshot in particular went on to a prolific solo and collaborative career, keeping the Black Moon and Boot Camp Clik legacy alive well beyond the group's original run.
