BKTHERULA

BKTHERULA is an American rapper and singer from Atlanta, Georgia, born Brooklyn Candida Rodriguez in 2002. She began releasing music as a teenager in the late 2010s, first exploring pop and R&B before shifting toward rap, where tracks made in the underground Atlanta scene built her early following. She went through a few name changes before settling on BKTHERULA.

Her breakthrough came with «TWEAKIN' TOGETHER», a self-described love song released in 2019 that led her debut mixtape, Love Santana, and drew wide acclaim for its blend of hazy, melodic rap with lo-fi, experimental production. That success led to a deal with Warner Records, and she has continued to release genre-blending mixtapes that mix rap, R&B, and electronic textures, often produced and delivered with a loose, freeform, do-it-yourself sensibility rather than conventional song structures.

BKTHERULA is known for her distinctive melodic flow, playful ad-libs, and willingness to experiment across rap, singing, and electronic sounds within the same project, placing her among a wave of young Atlanta artists pushing the city's rap sound in unconventional directions. She has also collaborated with fellow artist HOOK under the duo name HULA, further reflecting her interest in exploring music beyond a single lane.
