billy woods is an American rapper based in New York City, known for a dense, literary style that draws on history, politics, and personal experience. Born in Washington, D.C. to a Jamaican mother and a Zimbabwean father who was involved in his country's independence movement, woods has deliberately kept his real name and face out of public view, choosing anonymity over celebrity.

He is the founder of the independent label Backwoodz Studioz, which has become a home for adventurous underground hip-hop, and is one half of the duo Armand Hammer alongside ELUCID.
