About the artist
Big Scarr, born Alexander Woods, was an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. He rose to prominence after signing to Gucci Mane's label The New 1017, becoming one of the imprint's flagship artists in the early 2020s Memphis rap resurgence. His sound drew on the raw, aggressive style associated with Memphis and the broader trap tradition, marked by punchy delivery and dark, minimal production.
His breakout came with «SoIcyBoyz 2», a posse cut featuring labelmates that became his most widely heard track and helped establish The New 1017 roster as a commercial force. He built on that momentum with his debut album Big Grim Reaper, released in 2021, followed by a deluxe edition the next year that expanded his catalog and reach.
Big Scarr died in December 2022 at the age of 22, cutting short a career that was still ascending. A posthumous album, The Secret Weapon, followed in 2023, allowing fans to hear additional material he had recorded. He remains remembered as part of the Gucci Mane-affiliated wave that reinvigorated Memphis rap's national profile in the early 2020s.
