Big Pun

Big Pun, born Christopher Rios in the South Bronx, New York, was a Puerto Rican-American rapper who emerged from the mid-1990s underground scene as part of Fat Joe's Terror Squad collective. He is widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted rappers ever, known for dense multi-syllabic and internal rhyme schemes delivered with minimal pauses for breath, a style that influenced generations of MCs who followed him.

His debut album, «Capital Punishment» (1998), became the first solo album by a Latino rapper to be certified platinum, featuring standout tracks like «Still Not a Player» and «You Ain't a Player», alongside deeper, more technical showcases such as «Twinz (Deep Cover '98)» and «The Dream Shatterer». His work brought Latino representation to the forefront of mainstream hip-hop while never softening his lyrical intensity for crossover appeal.

His career was cut tragically short when he died of a heart attack in February 2000, at age 28. A posthumous album, «Yeeeah Baby», followed later that year. Big Pun's legacy endures through his technical influence on rap and through his son, Chris Rivers, who has continued a career in rap carrying his father's name forward.
