Big Moe

Big Moe, born Kenneth Moore, was an American rapper and singer from Houston, Texas, and a central figure of the city's Screwed Up Click and its distinctive chopped-and-screwed rap culture. Nicknamed the «Barre Baby», he became known for popularizing recreational codeine cough syrup culture within Houston rap, a theme that runs throughout his discography.

He developed a signature style he called «rapsinging», blending melodic, soulful singing with laid-back, slowed-down rap delivery over syrupy Southern production, a hybrid approach that influenced the melodic direction much of Houston and Southern hip-hop later took. His 2000 debut album «City of Syrup» became a defining record of the era and remains his best-known work, featuring tracks like «Barre Baby» and the title cut.

He continued releasing music including «Just a Dog» and freestyles associated with the DJ Screw «June 27» tape legacy, remaining closely tied to the Screwed Up Click roster throughout his career. Big Moe died in 2007 from a heart attack, but his influence on Houston's slow, syrup-soaked sound and its melodic rap tradition endures.
