Big Grams

Big Grams is a short-lived supergroup pairing OutKast rapper Big Boi with the electro-pop duo Phantogram, singer Sarah Barthel and multi-instrumentalist Josh Carter. The project grew out of the mutual admiration between the two acts, who had already collaborated on Big Boi's solo albums, and it fused Big Boi's dense, playful Southern rap style with Phantogram's dreamy, distorted synth-pop textures.

The group released a self-titled EP in 2015 featuring tracks like «Run for Your Life» and «Fell in the Sun», mixing hip-hop verses with hooky, atmospheric choruses in a way that felt distinct from both members' main projects. The pairing highlighted how well Big Boi's laid-back, technically sharp delivery could sit over moody, guitar-and-synth-driven production rather than typical trap or boom-bap beats.

While Big Grams never expanded into a full studio album, the EP became a notable footnote in mid-2010s genre-blending, showing how rap and indie electronic songwriting could merge without either side losing its identity. It remains best known as a one-off creative detour for two already-established acts rather than an ongoing group.
