Big & Rich

Big & Rich are an American country duo formed by John Rich and Big Kenny, two Nashville songwriters and performers who met through the local club scene in the late 1990s. Before breaking through as an act in their own right, both had spent years writing and performing for other artists, and together they built a loose collective of musicians and eccentrics known as the MuzikMafia, which became a regular showcase night in Nashville and a launching pad for several country acts of the mid-2000s.

The duo signed to Warner Bros. Nashville and released their debut album ‘Horse of a Different Color’ in 2004, powered by the novelty hit «Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)», which became a genre-crossing anthem thanks to its blend of hip-hop swagger, arena-rock bombast, and honky-tonk humor. That refusal to stay inside traditional country lines, mixing rap cadences, rock guitars, and sentimental balladry, defined their sound and helped open mainstream country to a broader, more theatrical style.

Beyond their own records, Big & Rich are known for writing and producing for other artists, including Martina McBride's «She's a Butterfly», and for mentoring or collaborating with a wide circle of Nashville talent through the MuzikMafia. Their showmanship, genre-blending arrangements, and larger-than-life stage persona made them one of the more distinctive acts to emerge from country music's 2000s expansion.
